Quirky Little Things I Find Amusing #2

I was browsing cnn.com the other day, and I happened to find this: Image

With my attention caught, I looked into it further. Turns out, this guy really can jump high. 5 feet high, in fact. Check out the CNN video here: http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/living/2013/03/29/orig-jtb-distraction-guy-jumps-really-high.cnn

The Top 3 April Fool’s Day Pranks so far…

1. Youtube. Even though they are dragging it on by streaming a nomination “award” show where they go through every video on Youtube, it’s a clever idea. Basically, on the video they released yesterday they said they were shutting Youtube down for 10 years. I was convinced for about 30 seconds, then I looked in the description. Here’s the original video: http://goo.gl/N6t2X. and here is the live stream: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HGeMGqVKD6A&feature=inp-lt-jke

2. Thatgamecompany. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MqXHDdwI2ug Enough said. I would actually buy this.

3. The Onion: Google Glass. This article by the satirical newspaper “The Onion” is very witty, and actually sounds realistic. I would’ve believed it had it not been on the Onion (just kidding).

Also, according to several Internet providers, there will be free WiFi offered country-wide. The SSID it will go by is this: ┓┏ 凵 =╱⊿┌┬┐

Poem Anthology 1: Fog Part 1

Hey all, I’ve decided to start a new feature on my blog, called Poem Anthologies. Each week, I will choose a certain theme, and during that week I will release 3-4 poems about that subject in varying forms. This week’s subject is fog. Here is my first poem:

Nature’s Blanket

A perfect shield

Inconspicuous, yet alarming

What could be there?

Looking in the Shadows

Good, bad, who knows?

When you go into the Fog

A deadly weapon

Blinding the innocent eye

From what is there

Lurking in the Shadows.

Good, bad, who knows?

WHen you go into the Fog

Nature’s blanket

Preserving, smothering life

Whoever, whatever, however the Shadows

All lie hidden

In the Fog

Quirky Little Things I Find Amusing #1

Quirky Little Things I Find Amusing #1

Quirky Little Things I Find Amusing, or QLTIFA (think Queen LaTIFAh) are little pictures, videos, news stories, that I can’t really find enough substance to write a post about, or are just self-explanatory. Here’s the first one, from did-you-kno.tumblr.com. I find this amazing, and I can see how much of a genius Stephen Hawking really is.

NEWS: David Tennant and Billie Piper confirmed to appear in Doctor Who 50th Anniversary special

Sorry about the Doctor Who streak today, but there is one more thing I want to report on.

Image

Yesterday, both BBC and BBC America confirmed that both Billie Piper, who portrayed Rose Tyler, the Doctor’s companion for two series, and David Tennant, the Tenth Doctor, from Series 2, 3, and 4, will be appearing in the November 2013 50th anniversary special of Doctor Who. Neither of these two have appeared in an episode since David Tennant’s regeneration, in “The End of Time” in 2010. This is great news for most Doctor Who fans, as they are debateably the most popular partnership of the new series (since 2005). Also set to co-star in this special is John Hurt. John Hurt has played Ollivander in the Harry Potter movies, and Control in “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy”, among other roles.

A few things I noticed about the new Doctor Who episode

Note: There are episode spoilers in this post, so don’t read if you haven’t seen the episode. Check my previous post for my episode review.

1. Possibly the best nod to the Ponds yet, (although there hasn’t been much time,) is this book, titled Summer Falls. It is written by Amelia Williams, the same author who wrote Melody Malone in “The Angels Take Manhattan”. Also, after Clara asks the kid what chapter she is on, she replies by saying that “chapter 11 will make you cry”. Chapter 11 is the last chapter of Melody Malone, of course where the Ponds say their farewell.

2. The episode title, “The Bells of Saint John”, originally confused me. I couldn’t find any reference to a saint, John, or bells, until I looked more carefully at the TARDIS. Emblazoned on the right door is the logo of St. John Ambulance, a worldwide ambulance service and medical training station. The bells, of course, are referencing the TARDIS’s phone ringing, which shouldn’t even be ringing in the first place.

3. Social Media Jokes. When the head of The Shard is asking about it’s employees on social media, like Facebook and MySpace, all of them reply that they are on them and they have posted where they work. Also, Clara makes a joke about Twitter, showing that she is a computer genius (because only computer geniuses can make jokes about Twitter).
